Nowadays plastic bottles are already used by everyone. Plastic bottles that are practical to carry everywhere can help people prevent dehydration when outdoors. But don't just look at the health benefits. We must also be aware of the effects of plastic bottles for themselves and the environment. Plastic is a synthetic material that is made with many substances. Although the plastic called PET plastic is safe to use, but this plastic can only be used once. When used continuously, plastic can cause adverse effects to health and the environment. Continuous use will make the plastic release a substance called BPA in the water in it. Meanwhile, BPA can have negative effects on health. Here are some of them, as reported by Health Me Up (23/12):

    1. Behavioral problems in children
    2. Reducing the level of immunity
    3. Triggering puberty earlier in girls
    4. Triggering fertility problems
    5. Diabetes
    6. Decrease sperm count
    7. Causing learning problems
    8. Obesity
    9. Breast and prostate cancer.

Plastic bottles also contain chemicals called phthalates. This substance helps plastic to be flexible. But on the other hand it is also associated with various health problems such as liver cancer, lowering sperm count, and triggering other reproductive problems. Not only dangerous for health, substances in plastic bottles can also damage the environment. Depending on the type used, plastic bottles require a very long time to be broken down. Plastics need around 450 to 1,000 years to be decomposed by soil, while the use of plastic bottles and the accumulation of plastic waste in the world can reach 50 million bottles. Sooner or later the earth will soon be filled with plastic bottles that cannot be decomposed. Besides that plastic bottles that can hold one liter of water need three liters of water to make it. The water used to make bottles cannot be used anymore. So that this is also wasting water available in the world. Some of the above should be considered by many people before using a plastic drink bottle lightly. It is better to reduce the use of plastic bottles and use glass more often.

Because of the dangers posed by the accumulation of plastic bottles on earth, we should think about how plastic bottles can be recycled or reused, for example, for crafts from plastic bottle waste or used for other materials or substitute materials.
